Hāwea local launches new Plastic Free Wanaka website
Local non-profit community group Plastic Free Wanaka are celebrating the launch of their fantastic new website to coincide with the closing out of 2021’s Plastic Free July campaign.
The website was created with the support of Michelle and Nathan Veasey from Envy Web + Design. Although they are no longer Wanaka residents, the couple are well-known locally, particularly for their creative and thoughtful web creations.
“We’re just so incredibly chuffed to have this beautiful new website. It’s been a long time coming, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of some amazing people who put lots of love and energy into bringing it together”, shares PFW spokesperson Anna van Riel.
The new website, which Anna states “belongs to the whole community”, is testament to the diligent job Wanaka and its surrounding villages have done in their commitment to reduce single-use plastic waste and keep our lakes district beautiful.
“It sports our waste-free shopping guide, a list of all the cafes where you can borrow a cup if you forget yours and where you can find our SUCfree Wanaka bullet cups. Wanaka is doing a really amazing job at being SUCfree. It really shows when you step out of our town”.
PFW initiatives such as Plastic Free Paula, their humorous mascot, and Waste Free Wanda, a waste-defeating superhero for kids are also showcased on the new site, providing locals of all ages with resources and solutions to combating the global plastic waste pandemic.
“Our future goal is to swap out our downloadable waste-free shopping guide for an interactive one that also serves as an app. It will be so amazing to offer a resource where folks can punch in a product and are shown waste free options locally.”
The Plastic Free Wanaka team worked with Honest Wholefood founder and marketing specialist Nicola Cross to bring the content together. “I love how important this has felt to so many people” Anna stated.
The new website launched on Friday 30 July, check it out at www.plasticfreewanaka.co.nz
