Nesting platforms re-instated for Grebes

After a pair of Grebes were spotted in the vicinity of the boat ramp last week, it was decided to reinstate the nesting platforms.

Within minutes of the platforms being sited, the pair were inspecting their potential nesting place and had occupied and begun nesting within a few hours.

Two platforms have been placed in the ANZAC Peninsula area this season in the hope that the young from last season may return with a mate. Platforms will also be placed at The Neck and Silver Island.

It was fantastic seeing such interest and respect from our community for these birds last season and we ask the same again this year. Please give the birds plenty of space (minimum of 50m) and educate those exhibiting undesirable human behaviour towards the birds as to the threat they pose.

Thanks to John Langley for placement of the nesting platform and the photo.
