HCA Survey: What should be included in our new Hāwea playspaces?
Update - 8th October - Survey Results Now Available
Update - 4th October: This survey has now been closed. Results will be posted later this month. Thanks to all those in the community who submitted their feedback, we appreciate it.
Yes, it’s happening, and we need your feedback!
The Playground Committee (under Hāwea Community Association) is looking for community input on what your family would like included for two proposed recreational play-spaces at Lake Hāwea and Hāwea Flat. We’ve put together an online survey via SurveyMonkey for you to easily give feedback. A copy of this survey will also be delivered to mailboxes in the Hawea area for those not able to submit online.
More information on the playspace development is below:
What we know
Our committee’s role is to drive the community consultation, design and funding aspect. QLDC has provided a seed grant of $40k. The remaining funds will come via grant/trusts, community fundraising and possibly further QLDC funding. The construction process may be staged as we gather funds*.
The green spaces for the play areas are at Lake Hāwea (Brewster Crescent Reserve in Sentinel Park, 5200 sq/m) and Hāwea Flat (Long Grass Place Reserve, 4000 sq/m).
*expressions of interest or suggestions for fundraising are gratefully received as we put together our funding plan - please e-mail playgrounds@haweadistrict.co.nz.
What happens next
We need your feedback for the design brief, to ensure the concept designs are in keeping with what our local community wants as a whole. Please note that individual requests are not guaranteed, but all feedback will be listened to. Once the concepts are drawn, we’ll organise a community consultation before the consent process begins.
Here’s a simplified overview of the project process (we’re right at the beginning!):
Community Feedback > Design Brief > Concept Design > Community Feedback > Council Consent > Fundraising > Tender > Construction
